Railways has inaugurated India's first green station at Manwal on the Jammu-Udhampur rail route. With the tiny station facing frequent power cuts, it has been a provided a supply of solar power. "A request was made to J&K SEB for providing reliable electric power supply to this station...it was planned to generate onsite renewable energy through solar panels," said A S Negi, spokesperson, Northern Railway. 
 
Kozhikode became the 1st district free from plastic waste in the country. The declaration in this regard was made today at Kozhikode in Kerala by Mr. Justice MSA Siddiqui, Chairman of national commission for Minority Education Institutions. Mass Action for Plastic Waste Free Kozhikode-MAP Kozhikode-began on 2nd October 2010. The district has been witnessing a series of programme for achieving the goal- plastic waste free Kozhikode since then. It included rallies, publicity meeting, awareness camp, meeting and human chain-82Km in the National Highway in which nearly 3 lakh people participated. The programme was organised under the auspices of District Administration with local body, general education department & people's organisations.
