Government to set up around 5067 Gram Nyayalayas in the country in the near future, Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily has said.
    
Under the Gram Nyayalaya, mobile courts, with the powers of judicial magistrate would be set up at Panchayat level, he said.
    
Moily was in Vadodara on Tuesday to deliver a lecture on Ramayan at a religious function organised by a local trust.
    
He said after the Gram Nyayalaya Act came into force on October 2, 2009, 144 village-level courts have been set up.
    
In Madhya Pradesh there are 89 such courts, followed by Rajasthan 45, Maharashtra 9 and Orissa one.
    
Moily said, "The Central Government has decided to meet the non-recurring expenditure on the establishment of these Gram Nyayalayas subject to a ceiling of Rs 18 lakh."
